WCR Letters to the Editor
Freedom of speech has limitsI whole-heartedly disagree with the fairly recent B.C. Appeals Court 2-1 decision in favour of allowing school teachers the right to express their political or ideological views at schools. Really, how will the pro-choice-minded teachers react when a pro-lifer decides to express his/her freedom of speech by posting flyers around the school proclaiming his/her anti-abortion sentiments? Or what about Arab- and Israeli-Canadians who wish to express themselves - one faction against the other? Hate speech not included in this freedom-of-speech deal, you say? Well, apparently a court will decide, just like the appeals court that ruled 2-1 in favour of teachers expressing themselves. Frank Sterle, Jr.
