It's no way to treat Grandma

It is indeed with great sorrow and sadness thatSt. Francis of Assisi Parish is slated for closure.

I can handle change and hope is faith. The Franciscan Friars have always been there for the parish. I thank them for their love and many kindnesses.

My hope is that St. Francis Church closure is not the fallout of their decision to move on. Having said that, we the people are still the parish and need to be considered.

This is the oldest parish in northeast Edmonton. I have no issue with going to a neighbouring parish if they have room for me. My issue is the lack of parking at these parishes.

This is a very vibrant and active parish. There was a book Friars and Friends published in 1984 for the 75th anniversary of this parish. It is the history of this parish and surrounding areas.

This city is 100 years old this year. St. Francis of Assisi Parish is 95 years old. We have survived three fires. I hope and I pray a just solution will prevent the closure of our church.

This is no way to treat your grandparents.

Public must monitor corporate actions

Byron Price must believe in the Easter Bunny to suggest corporate conscience comes so easily("Corporations and common good," WCR, March 29).

As a veteran of several Talisman protests in Calgary, I am certain thousands of innocent Sudanese died while that company awaited a good price and sold off their Sudan interests.

As for the Exxon Valdese, an article in this week's Independent claims not one penny was paid in 15 years to fishermen and others affected by that spill.

By maintaining a fleet of lawyers Exxon avoided payouts and made an extra $400 million each year.

We the public must protest such injustices and see bad press for these criminals.

Otherwise we can expect only chocolate eggs for Easter.

Believers' sophisticated response to Passion grieves

What grieves one most about the sophisticated response of some devout people to The Passion of the Christ is how little they seem to grasp what it takes for hopeless sinners to break through to hope.

It has been said that this movie won't reach anyone who doesn't already believe. On the contrary!

"Believers" are the ones least likely to be reached by it. And most likely to be surprised to see who is reached by it.

Fr. Lacombe's namesake

Thank you for running the article on the 10th anniversary("Francophone district marks 10 years," WCR, March 22).

I would however like to make a correction as to the name of my school. It is École Père-Lacombe and not Frere Lacombe.
