WCR Letters to the Editor

CSS grateful for the support

Thank you to the people of Edmonton and north-central Alberta for your caring, giving spirit. Your loyal support has enabled the Sign of Hope campaign to exceed its goal, raising $1.52 million. This will result in more services to people in need in 2001.

I especially appreciate the support from the parishes throughout the archdiocese. I also want to recognize the 400 volunteers who worked so hard to make the campaign such a success.

Although all 120 Catholic Social Services (CSS) programs receive funding from the Sign of Hope, this year's unprecedented success will enable CSS to provide additional funding and services through programs such as First Steps, dealing with fetal alcohol syndrome/effect, individual and family counselling and the elder abuse program.

I truly appreciate the confidence that you, as donors, place in Catholic Social Services.

I also thank the staff of the Western Catholic Reporter for their excellent coverage of the campaign and Catholic Social Services programs in both the publication and the Internet site.

Satan happy with coverage

Re: Your Jan. 22 issue of the WCR in which you put the picture of the sodomized marriage of two homosexuals on your front page.

How Satan loves media coverage for his works of corruption. How else can Satan gather all nations for nuclear war (Revelation 20:7-8) without media support?

But Our Lord Jesus has already informed the whole world what will happen to these Satan's supporters.

"And the nations were angry, and thy wrath (nuclear war) has come. And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and thou shouldest render reward to thy servants, the prophets and the saints, and to them that fear thy name, little and great, and should destroy them that have destroyed the earth" (Revelation 11:18).

For a thousand years (Revelation 20:1-6) the holy Catholic Church had Satan chained and restricted as symbolized in the bottomless pit, but now Christ's moral order is chained and restricted, and Satan's supporters are in control, and get front page exposure. Stock market collapse is imminent followed quickly by nuclear war that will usher in the three and a half year tribulation period.

Satan has your paper and the media chained and bound and restricted, you cannot print the truth.

Self respect is necessary

Charles Moore's column on "rage" ("'Rage' a result of social breakdown, WCR, Jan. 29) seems a puffed-up, lengthy generalization of a complex subject.

The subject of self-esteem is also ill-defined. The use of a dictionary can go a long way to keep us informed of definitions.

Self-esteem, self-love and self-discipline are the same. Self respect is an attitude that is necessary before we can respect others.
