WCR Letters to the Editor

Sisters need to learn theology

I would like to comment about the article by Anh Hoang who interviewed the three of us ("A long way to school," WCR, Feb. 14).

She quoted me as saying "Theology is for priests," Oparaku said. "That was my notion. We're sisters, we didn't need to know theology."

This is not what I meant that we as sisters didn't study theology as thoroughly as priests.

Today however sisters are found in theology programs as much as priests and we need it in today's world to educate ourselves and lay people.

I know that as sisters we need theology especially in a leadership role in the Church.

I hope this clarifies what I meant and was misquoted.

No justification for law-breaking

In reply to Frank Dolphin's letter to the WCR ("Nanny's expulsion from Canada is absurd," Feb. 28).

I too feel it is an absurd law. However, I must remind you that she broke the law of the land, like all those involved in this tragic issue.

You sir, are sending a wrong message, especially to our young people. What you are saying is, if you feel the law is wrong, break it!

Think what can happen to a nation full of people who advocate what you are saying. That is very scary indeed.
