Father Bruno Holtz, who devoted nearly 40 years of his life to promoting professionalism among Catholic journalists and communicators worldwide, died Feb. 29.

The Swiss-born priest felt journalism could best be practised by Catholic writers, editors and broadcasters who maintained their objectivity and practised the highest professionalism possible in their duties.

Holtz served as general secretary of the International Catholic Union of the Press, UCIP, from 1984 to 1993.

"Father Holtz was determined and assertive in the best possible sense," said Msgr. Owen Campion, the Vatican's ecclesiastical adviser to UCIP from 1990 to 2000.
