Archbishop Rowan Williams of Canterbury, spiritual head of the Anglican Communion, and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople will join Pope Benedict’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council.
The two Church leaders are pictured in a 2011 photo in Assisi, Italy.
Representatives from the Orthodox Church and Anglican Communion were observers at the 1962-65 council, which officially embraced and promoted Catholic involvement in the ecumenical movement.
