On Oct. 4, Catholics and many others celebrated St. Francis of Assisi. Caring and advocating for our suffering earth, we call on Francis as a patron of ecology and environmentalists.
There is no shortage of priests in the Catholic Church today. Throughout the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church, there have never been as many priests as today.
Sometimes when I read the WCR and the messages of Pope Francis, I sense a tremendous disconnect. Pope Francis sees it. Very few in the Church do.
With municipal elections on Oct. 21, it is not premature to consider our choices.
Many thanks to the WCR and Ramon Gonzalez for raising awareness about Taizé Prayer in Edmonton ("Christian voices unite in singing and Taizé Prayer,” Sept. 16).
Despite the unprecedented damage and trauma surrounding the flood experience in southern Alberta, we have all witnessed incredible rescue efforts and an experience of solidarity beyond our wildest dreams.

Re: “School board chair retires after six years of service” (WCR, July 15).
It is extremely disappointing to hear that Covenant Health’s CEO is being paid a salary beyond that of the CEO of the far-larger Alberta Health Services.
