Bad manners in church are wreaking havoc

July 1, 2013

Thank you Bishop Frederick Henry for bringing to the fore a real problem in our churches and which causes hard feelings among parishioners (WCR June 10, “Respect, courtesy matter in life, at Church”) – bad manners and lack of consideration.

I am replying to David Fraser’s letter in the May 27 WCR (“Same-sex blessings would mellow attitudes”).

Re-examine the roles of pastor, parishes

June 24, 2013

Yes, it is time to rethink the parish. (Is it time to rethink the parish? WCR, June 3.) Change in the Catholic Church comes slowly.

Discipleship grows out of Spirit’s inspiration

June 24, 2013

The article, “Is it time to rethink the parish?” (WCR, June 3) reopened, for me, feelings of profound sadness. It is not nostalgia for the more secure and comfortable times in the past but for the smothering of life that has delayed such a question for so long.

Article on resurrection had factual errors

June 24, 2013

Chris Miller’s article on the final talk in the series on the Nicene Creed did try to capture the essence of what I said and I commend him for getting most of it right (“I believe in the resurrection of the body,” WCR, June 17).

Since the legalization of abortion, more than 400,000 innocent children have been killed in Alberta. It is estimated that, after taking into account women having more than one abortion, there are 250,000 post-abortive women in Alberta suffering from the depression that sets in after three-to-five years.

Unity undermined by Western treachery

May 27, 2013

Glen Argan’s series on Vatican II is informative, yet his crucial piece on Christian disunity (WCR May 6) does not go deep enough to reveal the hidden roots and causes. Christopher Dawson is an excellent historical authority, but his profound knowledge cannot be simplified into a conclusion that the union was rejected by Byzantine Christians.

I am finding myself increasingly agitated by some of the attitudes put forth by my fellow Catholics in regard to homosexuality.

News coverage of pope turning him into idol

April 29, 2013

I was as swept up in knowing about Pope Francis as anyone else. However, I have come almost to the point of nausea at all the repetitious coverage of every miniscule detail of his life and himself.

Doing yoga postures expresses Hindu meaning

April 29, 2013

Regarding the letter by Jeff Scales (“Warning against yoga absurdly fundamentalist,” WCR, April 15), if Mr. Scales “understands and supports the Church’s position on dabbling with the occult,” he would do well to investigate, with minimal effort, the practices of yoga, kinesiology, therapeutic touch, etc.
