This week we celebrate once again the feast of Christ the King. Think for a moment on the question - what exactly is a king? A king is the absolute ruler of a kingdom. A king is a sovereign leader whose law reigns over his subjects.

In today's Gospel, Jesus teaches us how to live as authentic Christians. He says . . . "Abide in me as I abide in you." (John 15.5). The word "abide" has interesting connotations.

These are not ordinary times. Recently, I read some challenging words from Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the head of the U.S Catholic Conference of Bishops. He was speaking about the bill being debated in the U.S. which could force Church institutions to pay for birth control for their employees.
